Here we are again - one of the best!  Salida gets a nod in the book, "101 Best Outdoor Towns."  The publication covers unspoiled places to "grab your gear; pack your bags and beat the developers."  Our 5,476 big city is described as "...surrounded by 15 peaks higher than 14,000 feet; it's the epicenter for whitewater paddling action in the West; it's accessible to mountain biking, rock climbing, backcountry skiing, and fly-fishing; and thanks to quirks in geography, it stays mild and dry all winter..."

Well, they forgot to mention Monarch Ski Area, but, so far this year, no snow!  There's supposed to be a big storm coming in next week, perhaps in time for the Nov. 21 opening?
