As a member of the South Central Racing Club, I'm somewhat of an insider to the 4th Annual Salida Omnium.  The excitement has been mounting for months.  Of course, it has been dry forever, until the night of the time trials, then it pours.  Nevertheless, I volunteer at the start of the race, and quickly adopt the role of "jacket master."  Enough about me!  The participants come from 13 states to race in the State Games of the West and 2008 Tour of Colorado.  Tests include time trials, road races and criterium.  The word "Omnium" means a series of road races which awards prizes and points.  See 2008 race photos at www.stockerphoto.com. I was awed at the athletic ability - up to Olympic caliber.  My favorite, however, was the under 5 year olds on their tricycles.  These tiny winners even knew to raise their arms on the winners' podium!  My next endeavor?  The bicyclist for the end of August triathalon.  No name yet for the three competitors on my team.  Any ideas?  Leslie Walker, leslie@buysalida.com.
