Christo, a 75-year old artist, has proposed a grand-scale draping of the Arkansas River.  Involved would be 5.9 miles of silvery, luminous fabric panels in eight different sections between Salida and east to Canon City. The purpose is to inspire joy and beauty by creating this work of art.

The Bureau of Land Management recently issued an Environmental Impact Statement which analyzes socioeconomic impacts.  Financial impact would be about $70 million and thousands of jobs would be created.  There would be some significant impact in other areas.

The BLM is accepting comments until about the end of August.  If you are pro or con, it is important for you to read a summary of the EIS and to voice your opinion.  For more information see www.overtheriverinfo.com.
