Stay for a Lifestyle

In a recent workshop on "Economic Benefits of Historic Preservation," my presentation covered real estate trends.  Resources from San Diego, Abilene, TX, New Jersey Historic Trust, Chicago, Philadelphia, Sacramento and New York showed that historic properties or homes in the historic district command a premium upon resale.  The amount ranges from 2-72%.

In Salida, research shows that historic homes built in 1880 to 1920 which sold between January 2009 to January 2010 generated $189 per square foot compared to homes built after 1920, which sold for $164 per square foot and stayed on the market longer.

For more details on studies or specifics, contact Leslie Walker, Broker/Owner, Salida Historic Preservation Commission.  719 539 1031 or leslie@buysalida.com.
