Did the actual value of your property go up?  The Assessor's Office recently reevaluated properties in Chaffee County. Done every two years, the current period is based on the time frame of 1-1-05 to 6-30-06.  To protest an increase, you can write (PO Box 699), call or come in to the Assessor's Office (132 Crestone Ave.)  The deadline to protest is June 1 with the notice of determination mailed late June.  If you don't agree with their determination, the next step is the county commission, then the state, but at this level, a decision may take years!

If you want sales records to back up your protest, contact Leslie Walker at Salida Realty, 719 539 1031.
