The Alternative Scene in Salida by Leslie Walker

A few weeks ago, I overextended my knee in what the ski patrol call a "spread eagle."  It was strange; as I exited the lift, I could not move my legs and they drifted into an ever-widening V. Either I was on my partner's skis or she was on mine. This has given me an opportunity to discover the mellower side of Salida - the world of yoga, Pilates and rolfing.  There are excellent instructors here!  Although there is no listing under Yoga in the yellow pages, I know of 4 studios and additional classes at Exer-Flex.  The types range from "hot" to Iyengar.  Salida sports two rolfers.  I have visited Mindee Candy for 4 sessions with amazing awareness of how I misuse my body.  I engage my neck for about every movement.  Rather than using my feet to get out of a chair, I tense my neck!  This structural integration work also wraps up the treatments for my auto accident 2 years ago.  Just one Pilates studio in town, but it's great.  From mat to ball to equipment classes and one on one sessions.  This was a big help right after I was rear-ended.  Tai Chi classes started through the Rec Center - $20 for 5 sessions!  Another view of life in Salida.
